iXblue will shortly be conducting installation check-out and crew training for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Ice Breaking Tug Neah Bay (WTGB 105) as she completes her shipyard availability in Baltimore Maryland.
Neah Bay is the fourth of nine Bay Class Ice Breaking Tugs to receive one of iXblue’s OCTANS fiber-optic gyroscopes (FOG) and NavBox digital distribution units (DDU) as part of the classes’ service life extension program. The installation of Neah Bay’s OCTANS brings the number of OCTANS in service onboard USCG vessels to 106 fiber-optic gyroscopes.
When the service life extension program has completed all vessels in the Bay Class, Protector Class and Island Class will be equipped with iXblue OCTANS gyroscopes. In addition to these installations, iXblue has recently completed upgrading the 35 OCTANS in the U.S. Coast Guard’s spare inventory for the Protector and Island Class Patrol Boats. In addition to the improvements in performance and reliability (MTBF of 100,000 hours), upgrading these COTS products from generation IV to generation V included a new three year warranty on this improved OCTANS.
iXblue is proud of its continued support of the U.S. Coast Guard and looks forward to continuing its tradition of innovation, performance, reliability and 24/7 support far into the future.
